At the top in my list of "Movies to watch when I feel demotivated or low", is none other than "Rudy". For those who've watched it know what I'm talking about, those who haven't are missing out on a major treat of a lifetime.

Throughout our lives, we seek validation from others to be something we want to be, to do something we would like to do or to achieve a goal we desire. People, their judgments, their opinions matter to us. We are too involved in others even when, as a matter of fact, they are not so much in us. A major step towards success is when you start realizing that the only person stopping you from achieving your goals, are you. And none other than Daniel Eugene "Rudy" Ruettiger can tell you this better.

A little boy, born in Illinois, nurtures a dream to play football in Notre Dame. His life surrounds this one dream of his, and there's nothing he doesn't do to fulfill it. Rudy is born in a middle-class family. His father works in a local steel mill, which he and his brother, as well as his best friend, join after high school. He has neither the resources nor the grades to attend Notre Dame. Sadly, nor the physique and talent to compete in an esteemed intercollegiate program of football. What he had was the heart of steel and the courage of a Lion.

Rudy suffers a massive loss when Pete, his best friend, is killed in an accident in the mill. Instead of letting this take a toll on him, he decides to gear up and hustle harder. He leaves home, enrols in a junior college near Notre Dame, and thrives to get grades that can get him into his dream college. He has no support, emotional, or financial. He offers to work for free under the groundskeeper at Notre Dame, just for the sake of being inside that campus. He fights tooth and nail until he is eligible to transfer to Notre Dame in his final semester. Rudy very soon becomes a member of the daily practice squad and is noticed to be having immense drive and willpower by the coaches. He becomes a hero amongst fellow players because of his amity, perseverance, and the tendency to just never give up.

Rudy's dream comes true when he officially becomes a part of the team in season's finale. In 1993, when the movie was released, it was mentioned that no other player than Daniel Eugene Rudy Ruettiger had been carried off the ground till then.

Directed by David Anspaugh, ‘Rudy' the true story of a mediocre boy with an exceptional dream serves as a major reminder to us about all that we take for granted. A prompt to not get pulled down by the smallest to biggest of setbacks. To hustle, no matter what. To aspire to have at least "one-tenth the heart of Ruettiger's".
