Style Your Dad's Jeans - 5 Ways

Dad jeans aren't just for dads. And yes, my dad’s jeans fit me. No, yours don’t have to. Let’s consider dad jeans as an umbrella term for baggy denim, boyfriend jeans, mom jeans, straight cut jeans or any such similar type of silhouette. This is one of my kind of jeans and I own at least 5 of these.

They are comfortable and they are very versatile. You can pair them with a bunch of stuff and make it look effortless. It looks cute on every body shape too!

How to find the perfect pair of dad jeans?

Raid your dad’s closet. Or your nearest Levi’s store. You are looking for a booty snugging and well-fitting pair. Sometimes we might find one that fits perfectly around the thighs but is too loose around the waist. Or vice versa. If I fall absolutely in love with such a pair, I just take it to the tailor and get it altered. We want optimum comfort.

Don’t be scared of colour. If you find a beige pair, a pink one or even a white one, go for it. It adds a lot of character to your outfit. And if you can’t find the perfect looking pair, get it tailor-made. They will be way cheaper (I get 6 pairs made for 5k) and it will be the fit, length and cut that you desire).

This pair from Amazon checks all the marks.

Styling dad jeans is just as easy as styling your regular skinny jeans. It looks good with practically anything. Here are my top 3 tips -

Dad Jeans Tip #1 - Embrace The Culture

We wear our Kurtis with leggings and skinny jeans. But fun fact – they look bomb with dad jeans as well! It gives a modern twist to an otherwise very Indian silhouette. A white Kurti with some blue jeans is my favourite combination.

Pull out those jhumkis you love and that jutti you didn’t know what to wear with to complete this extra cute look.

Dad Jeans Tip #2 - Oversized and Baggy Go Together

We’ve been told over and over that you mustn’t wear baggy with baggy. It is a myth and you are about to bust it. Pair your dad jeans with your most comfortable oversized t-shirt and watch your chic and comfortable worlds collide. Over here I have a Fila Tshirt from the men's section and a light wash pair of dad jeans.

A bucket hat and chunky sneakers will pull this look together perfectly. And there you have it – the outfit of your dreams.

Dad Jeans Tip #3 - Smart Casual

Three words – jeans, cropped top, blazer. We have already tried and love this look with skinny jeans. But it honestly looks just as great, if not better with straight jeans. I've styled a black cropped top, black dad jeans and a pink blazer with it. Cuff those puppies in the bottom, put on your favourite pair of stilts and you will have everybody’s eyes on you all night.

Dad Jeans Tip #4 - Day or Night

My favourite way to style the denim is by wearing it with a bodysuit and layering it with a denim jacket. My light blue jeans with the black bodysuit and a light wash denim jacket can be worn during the day or night. Throw on some gold jewellery, this pair of black slip-on Vans and you're good to go!

Dad Jeans Tip #5 - No Brainer

My go-to, no brainer way to style this silhouette is to pair it with a tank top. The classic. Works with any occasion. Works with any style of tank top. Here I have paired black denim with a pink tank and my favourite white converse shoes.

Bonus Dad Jeans Tip – Cuff Them

Cuffing your denim till your ankle will make your legs look taller and give your shoes the attention they deserve.

I would like to end this blog by saying this – trends are born when rules are broken. So break the rules and wear whatever you want to irrespective of what influencers on Instagram are doing or bloggers are writing.
